Background:  The Salmon Recovery Funding Board provides funding for salmon restoration habitat projects.

 

State agencies are not authorized to act as project sponsors and thus not eligible to receive funding from the board for habitat projects.

 

State agencies would like to receive more funding.

 

Summary of Bill:  State agencies are authorized to act as a project sponsor when applying for Salmon Recovery Funding Board grants.  A state agency sponsored project is eligible for funding if approved by the lead entity and the agency has a local partner for the project.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Available.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

 

Testimony For:  State agencies have the technical expertise to carry out salmon restoration projects in cooperation with local entities.
