Background:  Mountain goats are found in higher elevation mountainous habitat in the Cascade and Olympic mountains.  A number of mountain goat populations have experienced declines in recent years.

Summary of Bill:  The sum of $500,000 is appropriated to the Department of Fish and Wildlife for the purpose of conducting a study on mountain goat population size and the ecologic causes of the population decline.

Appropriation:  $500,000 from the general fund.

Fiscal Note:  Requested on January 18, 2001.

Effective Date:  The bill contains an emergency clause and takes effect immediately.
