Background:  Many state wildlife agencies publish a magazine intended to inform the public of the various issues and opportunities involving wildlife oriented recreation, conservation activities, commercial fishing and guiding, and other fish and wildlife information of general interest.

 

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife does not produce such a magazine for the public.

 

Summary of Bill:  The director of the Department of Fish and Wildlife must produce a magazine on a quarterly basis known as Washington Wildlife.  The magazine features a wide variety of topics, including wildlife, fish and shellfish related articles.  Three sources of funding are identified:  subscription fees, paid advertising and donations.  Existing employees are utilized to produce the magazine and other public information articles are replaced by the magazine whenever possible.

 

The first publication date is January 2002.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Requested on January 18, 2001.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
