Sponsors:  Senators Constantine and McCaslin; by request of Office of the Code Reviser.

SENATE COMMITTEE ON LABOR, COMMERCE & FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

Majority Report:  Do pass.

Signed by Senators Prentice, Chair; Deccio, Fairley, Franklin, Honeyford, Rasmussen, Regala and Winsley.

Staff:  Casey Bui (786‑7448)

Background:  There has been increasing growth in the telecommunications installation industry due to increased use of computers, cable and the internet.  In an effort to apply oversight to this growing industry, new laws were passed and added to RCW 19.28 ("Electricians and Electrical Installations").  The chapter was subsequently reorganized into three categories:  provisions applicable to electrical installations, provisions applicable to telecommunications installations, and provisions applicable to both.

Summary of Bill:  Twenty-one sections of RCW 19.28 are amended to reflect the correct RCW references since Chapter 19.28 was reorganized.  Reference to a provision vetoed by the Governor in 1997 is removed.

Appropriation:  None.

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

Testimony For:  This bill makes necessary technical changes to RCW 19.28 because the chapter was recently reorganized with existing and new sections being renumbered.

Testimony Against:  None.

Testified:  Mark Lally, Office of the Code Reviser.
