Title:  An act relating to cultural resources with respect to forest practices.

 

Brief Description:  Defining "cultural resources" for the purposes of the forest practices act.

Background:  The present rules and regulations of the Forest Practices Board provide for consideration of cultural resources.  In the Forest Practices Act, there is a direct reference to the State Environmental Policy Act which declares that it is the continuing responsibility of the state to use all practicable means to preserve historic, cultural, and natural aspects of our national heritage.

 

Summary of Bill:  A definition of "cultural resources" is added to the act, which means archeological and historic sites, artifacts and traditional religious ceremonial and social issues and activities of affected Indian tribes.  The definition of "public resources" is changed to mean "cultural resources" in addition to capital improvements of the state, water, fish, and wildlife.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
