Background:  The legislative bodies of counties, cities, and towns have the authority to fund the storage, preservation, and exhibition of historical materials.  The State Capitol Furnishings Preservation Committee exists to recover and preserve the original and historic furnishings of the buildings on the state capitol campus, including those of the Legislative Building.

 

Summary of Bill:  State officers and employees are allowed to solicit funds for the preservation and restoration of the Legislative Building.  An exemption for these activities is made from the ethics laws.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

 

Effective Date:  The bill contains an emergency clause and takes effect immediately.
