Prohibiting methyl tertiary-butyl ether as a gasoline additive.


    AN ACT Relating to the use of gasoline additives; adding a new section to chapter 19.112 RCW; and prescribing penalties.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 19.112 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) Methyl tertiary-butyl ether may not be intentionally added to any gasoline, motor fuel, or clean fuel produced for sale or use in the state of Washington after December 31, 2003, and in no event may methyl tertiary-butyl ether be present in gasoline above six-tenths of one percent by volume.

    (2) A violation of this section is a misdemeanor.
