_1 AN ACT Relating to updating creditor/debtor personal property
_2 exemptions; and amending RCW 6.15.010.
_3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
_4 Sec. 1. RCW 6.15.010 and 1991 c 112 s 1 are each amended to read
_5 as follows:
_6 Except as provided in RCW 6.15.050, the following personal
_7 property shall be exempt from execution, attachment, and
_8 garnishment:
_9 (1) All wearing apparel of every individual and family, but not
10 to exceed one thousand dollars in value in furs, jewelry, and
11 personal ornaments for any individual.
12 (2) All private libraries of every individual, but not to
13 exceed fifteen hundred dollars in value, and all family pictures
14 and keepsakes.
15 (3) To each individual or, as to community property of spouses
16 maintaining a single household as against a creditor of the
17 community, to the community:
18 (a) The individual's or community's household goods,

_1 appliances, furniture, and home and yard equipment, not to exceed
_2 two thousand seven hundred dollars in value for the individual or
_3 five thousand four hundred dollars for the community, said amount
_4 to include provisions and fuel for the comfortable maintenance of
_5 the individual or community;
_6 (b) Other personal property, except personal earnings as
_7 provided under RCW 6.15.050(1), not to exceed ((one))
two thousand
_8 dollars in value, of which not more than one ((hundred))
thousand
_9 dollars in value may consist of cash, and of which not more than
10 one ((hundred)) thousand dollars in value
may consist of bank
11 accounts, savings and loan accounts, stocks, bonds, or other
12 securities; ((and))
13 (c) ((Two)) For an individual, a motor
((vehicles)) vehicle
14 used for personal transportation, not to exceed two thousand five
15 hundred dollars ((in aggregate value)) or for
a community two
16 motor vehicles used for personal transportation, not to exceed
17 five thousand dollars in aggregate value;
18 (d) Any funds traceable to and the debtor's right to receive
19 child support;
20 (e) All professionally prescribed health aids for the debtor or
21 a dependant of the debtor; and
22 (f) To any individual, a payment not to exceed sixteen thousand
23 one hundred fifty dollars on account of personal bodily injury,
24 not including pain and suffering or compensation for actual
25 pecuniary loss, of the debtor or an individual of whom the debtor
26 is a dependent; or a payment in compensation of loss of future
27 earnings of the debtor or an individual of whom the debtor is or
28 was a dependent, to the extent reasonably necessary for the
29 support of the debtor and any dependent of the debtor.
30 (4) To each qualified individual, one of the following
31 exemptions:
32 (a) To a farmer, farm trucks, farm stock, farm tools, farm
33 equipment, supplies and seed, not to exceed five thousand dollars
34 in value;
35 (b) To a physician, surgeon, attorney, clergyman, or other
36 professional person, the individual's library, office furniture,
37 office equipment and supplies, not to exceed five thousand dollars
38 in value;

_1 (c) To any other individual, the tools and instruments and
_2 materials used to carry on his or her trade for the support of
_3 himself or herself or family, not to exceed five thousand dollars
_4 in value.
_5 For purposes of this section, "value" means the reasonable
_6 market value of the debtor's interest in an article or item at the
_7 time it is selected for exemption, exclusive of all liens and
_8 encumbrances thereon.
