Requiring sex offender community notification in foreign languages.


    AN ACT Relating to sex offender community notification in languages other than English; adding a new section to chapter 4.24 RCW; and providing an effective date.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 4.24 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) In order to provide the broadest possible public safety protection, in geographic areas where there are significant populations for whom English is not the primary language, the sheriff shall produce level III community notification flyers in the five most common primary languages of local resident populations.

    (2) As used in this section "primary language" includes but is not limited to Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, and Chinese.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  This act takes effect July 1, 2003.
