State of Washington 57th Legislature 2002 Regular Session

WHEREAS, The State of Washington has played a major role in the development and expansion of the aerospace industry; and
WHEREAS, Thousands of citizens are employed by or benefit from the economic activity related directly or indirectly to the aerospace industry; and
WHEREAS, The State of Washington must develop short-term and long-term strategies to retain existing aerospace activity and to encourage new economic activity such as the supersonic transport here in this state; and
WHEREAS, The aerospace industry and aerospace economic activity play a significant role in the economic health and well-being of the state;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the Senate of the State of Washington, the House of Representatives concurring, That a joint select committee be established to study the retention and expansion of the aerospace industry in Washington to consider such issues as state regulation, taxation policy, work force training, international trade, transportation, and education as these issues affect the aerospace industry; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the committee consist of eight members: Four from the Washington State House of Representatives, two from each major political caucus, appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives; and four from the Washington State Senate, two from each major political caucus, appointed by the President of the Senate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That Senate Committee Services and the Office of Program Research shall provide staff for the committee; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the committee report its findings and recommendations to the Washington State Legislature by December 27, 2002.
