WHEREAS, Established in 1983, the Center for Health Studies – Group Health Cooperative – produces and disseminates public information regarding prevention and treatment of major health problems; and
WHEREAS, The Center for Health Studies strives to improve the quality of life for patients by developing clinical guidelines to identify, design and deliver the most effective treatment for specific patient populations; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Gregory E. Simon is a staff psychiatrist and senior scientific investigator for the Center for Health Studies – Group Health Cooperative; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Simon is a member of the National Depressive and Manic Depressive Association’s scientific board society, specializing in psychiatry, mental health, depression and bipolar disorders; and
WHEREAS, He is a distinguished author in many peer-reviewed journals, serves on several psychiatric editorial boards and is editor of the Current Opinion in Psychiatry’s mood disorders section; and
WHEREAS, For the past three years, the Welcome Back Awards have recognized excellence in the mental-health community; and
WHEREAS, This program honors individuals in the areas of psychiatry, primary care, community service and de-stigmatization who give renewed hope to those suffering from clinical depression; and
WHEREAS, On May 18, 2002, Dr. Simon will receive the Welcome Back Award in Psychiatry in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished award is given to a psychiatrist who raises depression awareness or who has a unique approach in treatment for clinical depression;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State Senate honor Dr. Simon for his advocacy and compassion in addressing the issues of the mental-health community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to Dr. Gregory E. Simon, staff psychiatrist and senior scientific investigator for the Center for Health Studies – Group Health Cooperative.
