SENATE RESOLUTION

     WHEREAS, Theresa ATC@ Ceccarelli and Roland Dewhurst are stepping down from Bates Technical College Board of Trustees after many successful years, and

     WHEREAS, Theresa and Roland have displayed their dedication and commitment to the advancement of Bates Technical College and its students, and

     WHEREAS, Theresa began her service at Bates Technical College in 1985 as a member of the General Advisory Council to Bates Vocational Technical Institute, and

     WHEREAS, she strongly supported Bates successful transition from a vocational-technical institute to a technical college in 1991 and was then appointed as an inaugural member of Bates Board of Trustees, and

     WHEREAS, Theresa=s legislative influence helped to shape policy and funding decisions for worker retraining and welfare reform programs - increasing student access to community and technical colleges, and

     WHEREAS, Roland began his service at Bates while on the General Advisory Council beginning in 1985 and was appointed in 1991 as an inaugural member of Bates Technical College=s Board of Trustees, and

     WHEREAS, Roland went above and beyond his Trustee duties to start a Bates Foundation that provides financial resources to students and instructors, and

     WHEREAS, Roland=s vision led Bates to be the first state college to offer guaranteed training of students to employers. This guarantee states that Bates graduates are qualified to perform the work indicated on their competency rating form, if not, students can return to the college for tuition-free retraining, and

     WHEREAS, Theresa and Roland=s leadership has enabled Bates Technical College to secure state funding for the KSTW Channel 11 television facility, now known as the William P. Mohler Multimedia Campus;

     NOW, THEREFORE,  BE IT RESOLVED that the Washington State Senate express its gratitude for the countless contributions Theresa Ceccarelli and Roland Dewhurst have made to Bates Technical College and the entire community and technical college system; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded by the Secretary of the Senate to Theresa Ceccarelli, Roland Dewhurst and Bates Technical College.
