SB 5271 - DIGEST

     Requires health carriers to cover, pay for, contract for, or reimburse for diagnosis and treatment of the following mental disorders defined in the most current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by the American psychiatric association:

     (1) Schizophrenia;

     (2) Schizoaffective disorder;

     (3) Major depressive disorder;

     (4) Bipolar disorder;

     (5) Paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal disorders;

     (6) Obsessive-compulsive disorder; and

     (7) Panic disorder.

     Requires health carriers to cover, pay for, contract for, or reimburse for diagnosis and treatment of a minor's mental condition not covered under this act when:

     (1) The minor has accessed care from a licensed or certified mental health practitioner on more than one occasion;

     (2) The minor has been recommended for a mental health evaluation by a probation counselor within the juvenile justice system; or

     (3) The minor has been admitted to an emergency room for care and the mental status of the minor contributed to the need for care.
