SB 5665 - DIGEST

 

     Declares that every individual possesses a fundamental right of privacy with respect to his or her genetic information.

     Declares it is the public policy of the state of Washington that:

     (1) Every individual has the fundamental right to choose or refuse to release his or her genetic information;

     (2) The state shall not deny or interfere with a person's fundamental right to choose or refuse to release his or her genetic information; and

     (3) The state shall not discriminate against the exercise of these rights in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services, or information.

     Declares it is the purpose of this act to (1) protect the results of genetic tests as private information; (2) prohibit discrimination based on genetic information; (3) prohibit disclosure of genetic information without the consent of the person to whom the information pertains; and (4) prohibit required genetic testing or the release of genetic information as a condition of employment, real estate transactions, credit transactions, or insurance.
