On page 14, after line 15, insert the following:

"(c) Assessments measuring the essential academic learning

requirements in the content area of social studies shall be available for mandatory use in elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools by the 2007-08 school year.

(d) Assessments measuring the essential academic learning

requirements in the content area of the arts shall be available for mandatory use in elementary schools by the 2009-10 school year and in the middle schools and high schools by the 2008-09 school year.

(e) Assessments measuring the essential academic learning

requirements in the content area of health and fitness shall be available for mandatory use in elementary schools by the 2009-10 school year and in the middle schools and high schools by the 2008-09 school year."

EFFECT: Reinstates the timeline for the development of the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in the Goal II subject areas (Social Studies, Arts, and Health & Fitness.)
