Brief Description: Renaming the legislative committee on economic development the legislative committee on economic development and international relations.

Background:

 

The Legislative Committee on Economic Development (Committee) was created in 1985. The purpose of the Committee is to provide responsive and consistent involvement by the Legislature in economic development to maintain a healthy state economy and to provide employment opportunities to Washington residents.

 

The Committee consists of six state senators and six state representatives and the Lieutenant Governor, who serves as the Committee's chairperson. The Committee may establish subcommittees, including a subcommittee on international trade and a subcommittee on industrial development.

 

The Committee is authorized to study and review economic development issues, including international trade, tourism, investment and industrial development. The Committee is to assist the Legislature in developing a comprehensive and consistent economic development policy.

 

Summary:

 

The Legislative Committee on Economic Development shall be called the Legislative Committee on Economic Development and International Relations.
