Brief Description: Creating an alternate plan of health care for state employees.

Brief Summary of Bill

    Establishes a new health insurance option for individuals eligible to receive coverage through the Public Employees Benefit Board.

Background:


The Public Employees Benefit Board designs employee benefit plans that include comprehensive health care benefits for public employees. It also determines the terms and conditions of employee participation and coverage.


Summary of Bill:


The Public Employees Benefit Board is authorized to design a plan of health care coverage that is more limited in scope than existing comprehensive health insurance options. Elements of the plan may include a limited scope of services, high deductibles, care management and cost-containment measures, and a flexible funding account that may be used to pay for health care services.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
