SENATE COMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION
Staff: Jean Six (786-7423)
Background: Currently, there is no requirement that part-time faculty at Washington's public colleges and universities be paid on the same date as full-time faculty are paid. This problem exists at some of the state's public colleges and universities, but not all. Some people believe all faculty should be paid on the same date.
Summary of Bill: Beginning with the second term of contiguous employment, not including summer term, part-time faculty at all of Washington's public colleges and universities are paid on the same pay date as full-time faculty. An exception is provided when the first pay date for a given term occurs prior to the beginning of a part-time faculty member's duties for that term.
Appropriation: None.
Fiscal Note: Requested on February 18, 2003.
Effective Date: Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
