     AN ACT Relating to audible pedestrian crossing signals; and adding a new section to chapter 47.36 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1   A new section is added to chapter 47.36 RCW to read as follows:
     The department shall ensure that audible pedestrian crossing signals be installed at any location within the state where a project to be constructed meets the following conditions:
     (1) The project scope includes a pedestrian crossing signal upgrade or a new crossing signal installation;
     (2) Either all or a portion of the project is funded with state funds.
     The signals must conform to the guidelines approved by the American Association of State Highway Officials and as set out in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
