     AN ACT Relating to injuries resulting from health care; adding a new section to chapter 7.70 RCW; and adding a new section to chapter 70.41 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1   A new section is added to chapter 7.70 RCW to read as follows:
     Every health care provider shall inform each patient, or an individual identified pursuant to RCW 7.70.065(1), in person about adverse incidents that result in serious harm to the patient. Notification of outcomes of care that result in harm to the patient under this section shall not constitute an acknowledgement or admission of liability, nor can such notifications be introduced as evidence.

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2   A new section is added to chapter 70.41 RCW to read as follows:
     An appropriately trained person designated by each hospital shall inform each patient, or an individual identified pursuant to RCW 7.70.065(1), in person about adverse incidents that result in serious harm to the patient. Notification of outcomes of care that result in harm to the patient under this section shall not constitute an acknowledgement or admission of liability, nor can it be introduced as evidence.
