On page 7, after line 18 of the amendment, insert the following:
"NEW SECTION. Sec. 14 The department of ecology shall establish
by January 1, 2007, a state-funded program for identifying and labeling
all commercial or consumer goods or products that have technically
feasible and safer alternative flame retardants, such labeling to
include the name of the flame retardant used and the potential human
health and environmental implications of that flame retardant, based on
scientific evaluations undertaken by independent entities."
Renumber the remaining section consecutively.
EFFECT: Requires the Department of Ecology to develop a state program for identifying and labeling goods that have technically feasible and safer alternative flame retardants. The label must include the potential human health and environmental impacts of the flame retardant.
