On page 7, after line 18 of the amendment, insert the following:
"NEW SECTION. Sec. 14 The director of fire protection shall
establish by January 1, 2007, fire safety standards that are equivalent
to or exceed the standards set for commercial and consumer goods and
buildings under such codes as: California Code 117+, the California
bureau of home furnishings codes, the national fire prevention
association codes, and underwriters laboratories codes, for all
commercial or consumer goods or products manufactured or sold in the
state of Washington and all newly constructed buildings. The state
shall further establish standards for testing such goods or products to
ensure compliance with the applicable standard. Such commercial goods
or consumer products shall include television sets, computers,
furniture, mattresses and box springs, electronics, and electronic
equipment."
Renumber the remaining section consecutively.
EFFECT: Requires the Director of Fire Protection to establish fire safety standards that are equivalent or exceed standards for buildings and commercial and consumer goods adopted by California, the National Fire Prevention Association, and Underwriters Laboratories. Directs Washington to establish standards for testing products to ensure compliance with standards.
