   On page 1, beginning on line 5, strike all of section 1 and insert the following:

   "NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 9A.44 RCW to read as follows:

   (1) A political subdivision of the state that adopts a rule, regulation, code, statute, or ordinance limiting where a registered sex offender may reside must promptly notify the county sheriff of the county in which the political subdivision is located in writing of the rule, regulation, code, statute, or ordinance.

   (2) The county sheriff shall provide to a person registering as a sex offender under RCW 9A.44.130 a copy of any living restrictions that may be applicable to the person."

EFFECT: Removes the language preempting local laws. Requires political subdivisions of the state (counties, cities, towns, etc.) to promptly notify the county sheriff if they adopt rules, regulations, codes, statutes, or ordinances that limit where a registered sex offender may live. The county sheriff must provide a copy of any applicable living restrictions to a person who is registering as a sex offender.
