Brief Summary of Bill
  • Requires the Secretary of State to make election results of all state measures, by legislative district, available on its web site for five years.

Background:

As the chief election officer of the state, the Secretary of State (Secretary) must keep records of elections and make such records available to the public upon request. However, state law does not require the Secretary to provide election results on its web site.

The Secretary's web site currently provides online election results for state measures for the entire state and by county. Legislative election results are provided by legislative district.

Summary of Bill:

The Secretary is required to provide on its web site the election results of all state measures, made available by legislative district. The election results must be available online for five years.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
