Staff: Gary Lebow (786-7304).
Background:
Current law requires proceeds from the sale of surplus real property purchased for highway
construction projects be deposited into the Motor Vehicle Account.
Summary of Bill:
Proceeds from the sale of surplus real property acquired for the purpose of construction of the
new Tacoma Narrows and any liquidated damages collected on any contract used to construct
the bridge are to be deposited into the Tacoma Narrows Toll Bridge Account.
Appropriation: None.
Fiscal Note: Available.
Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
Testimony For: It's only fair that the proceeds for right of way and the liquidated damages be deposited into the Toll Account because the toll payers are the ones paying for the project.
Testimony Against: None.
Persons Testifying: Senator Oke, prime sponsor; and Jeff Carpenter, Washington State Department of Transportation.
