Background: Twenty-three commemorative works are located on the state capital grounds. Some of these memorials were constructed with privately raised funds. The Department of General Administration maintains the grounds surrounding these memorials and takes care of minor cleaning but does not have funding for major repairs or restoration.

Summary of Bill: The bill establishes the commemorative works account. Expenditures from the account do not require appropriation and can only be used for the ongoing care, maintenance, and repair of commemorative works on the capital campus. The account retains its own interest earnings.

Testimony For: Memorials and commemorative works on the state campus require ongoing maintenance and care to ensure their preservation. This new account will encourage private fund raising to help maintain these memorials.
