Background: The Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA) addresses child support issues that arise when parties reside in different states. The UIFSA was drafted by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws in the early 1990s, and Washington adopted it in 1994. UIFSA has been amended twice (1996, 2001), and Washington has adopted the amendments. Washington adopted the 2001 amendments with an effective date of six months following the date Congress mandated states to adopt the amendments. However, Congress has not yet required states to adopt the amendments.

Summary of Bill: The 2002 amendments take effect January 1, 2007.
