SENATE COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION

Staff: Dory On (786-7321)

Background: Magnetic levitation (maglev) is a system in which magnetic force lifts, propels, and guides a vehicle over a guideway at speeds of 250 to 300 miles per hour. Proponents of magnetic levitation technology suggest that a magnetic levitation system would greatly improve the movement of persons and freight in Washington, and reduce traffic congestion.

Summary of Bill: The Washington Legislature requests that the United States Department of Transportation consider the state of Washington as a candidate for federal funding for the implementation of a magnetic levitation concept with implementing pilot projects.

Appropriation: None.

Fiscal Note: Not requested.

Committee/Commission/Task Force Created: No.
