Background: The Washington State Patrol (WSP) has the power and duty to enforce laws relating to vehicle size, weight, and load applicable to motor vehicles.

Summary of Bill: WSP is directed to assign at least one full-time officer from the agency's Commercial Vehicle Division to work solely to enforce the size, weight, and load laws with respect to truck operators supporting the construction of a third runway at certain airports.

Appropriation: None.

Fiscal Note: Requested on January 20, 2005.

Effective Date: Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

Testimony For: There are many trucks violating weight limits which causes damage to the roads and bridges. There are also many trucks driving unsafely.

Testimony Against: One officer isn't enough to remedy the situation; there should be one officer at each of the five loading facilities.
