Background: In 2005, a twenty-two member legislative youth advisory council was established to examine issues important to youth and advise the Legislature. Fourteen is the minimum age for appointment to the council. The council's statutory authority expires June 30, 2007.

Summary of Bill: The minimum age for appointment to the council is lowered to twelve. The expiration date is removed.

Testimony For: Lowering the minimum age to 12 will allow middle school, in addition to high school, students to participate on the council. A minimum age of 10 would also allow participation by elementary school students.
