Background: A concealed weapons license can be renewed within ninety days before the expiration date. A renewal fee is charged. If the renewal is made within ninety days after the expiration date of the license, there is a late fee in addition to the renewal fee. In both cases, the new license takes effect on the expiration date of the original license.

Summary of Bill: Members of the armed forces who are out of state on deployment, assignment, or re-assignment may renew their concealed weapons license without paying a late fee if they renew the license within ninety days after returning to the state. The effective date of the license is the expiration date.

"Armed forces" includes members of the national guard and armed forces reserves. The military member must provide proof of their out-of-state military service by providing copies of their deployment papers out of state, and subsequent deployment papers back to the state, with their application for the license renewal.
