HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.2005-4629, by Representative Darneille

     WHEREAS, Tacoma residents rallied to protect an unused military reservation, turning it into public green space, with President Theodore Roosevelt signing legislation granting the land that is Point Defiance Park to the City of Tacoma on March 3, 1905; and
     WHEREAS, Point Defiance Park is the crown jewel of Tacoma's green spaces and an icon for the city, with 10 miles of walking trails, rocky beaches, cliffs, and 552 acres of undeveloped land including old growth forests; and
     WHEREAS, Point Defiance Park is also home to eight landscaped gardens, the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum, the Boathouse Marina, Owen Beach, Five Mile Drive, and the Camp Six Logging Museum; and
     WHEREAS, March 3, 2005, marks Point Defiance Park's centennial, which will be celebrated with special events, displays, a documentary, and other events from March 3rd through September 2005;
     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives join in the recognition and celebration of Point Defiance Park's centennial.
