HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.2005-4666, by Representatives Hunter, Hudgins, Santos, Hasegawa and Pettigrew

     WHEREAS, The Chinese Information and Service Center (CISC) has provided vital assistance to the Asian community in Seattle and the surrounding region since 1972; and
     WHEREAS, The staff and volunteers of CISC have dedicated themselves to "bridging cultures, communities and generations"; and
     WHEREAS, Each year, CISC assists more than 4,500 individuals by providing for the well-being of families, seniors, and youth in the areas of education, health care, and social services; and
     WHEREAS, CISC helps immigrants become more competitive in the work force by providing employment assistance that includes bilingual employment counseling, vocational English courses, and bilingual computer training; and
     WHEREAS, The United States Department of Justice recognized CISC's Crime Victim Service Program for helping immigrants understand the criminal justice system, providing legal aid and interpretation services; and
     WHEREAS, CISC helps the elderly live an active and quality lifestyle by providing in-home care case management and services through the Sunshine Garden Chinese Senior Day Care Center in Seattle and at six other locations across the Eastside; and
     WHEREAS, Immigrants who wish to become citizens of the United States can find assistance through CISC and take an English as a Second Language course that focuses on naturalization; and
     WHEREAS, CISC continues to anticipate the needs of immigrant communities by expanding its presence to the Eastside, and collaborating with local community groups and nonprofits; and
     WHEREAS, CISC is an active participant and essential partner with the community, city of Seattle, the Eastside, and state of Washington in providing highly specialized services that enhance the lives of a large and growing immigrant population;
     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the Chinese Information and Service Center and urge all citizens to join in honoring and recognizing the dedication and hard work of its staff and volunteers; and
     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the Chinese Information and Service Center.
