WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the State of Washington
has embarked on a three-year effort to develop a strategic plan to set
the direction of and establish the broad general priorities for House
administration and operations; and
WHEREAS, As a first step in this effort, the House of
Representatives has been working on its mission, vision, and goals
statements; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives acknowledge and recognize the
broad participation of both members and staff in the process of
developing its mission, vision, and goals statements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives
adopt as its mission: As stewards of the public trust, guided by our
state Constitution, the House of Representatives of the State of
Washington establishes laws and policies to protect individual rights,
provide quality education and other essential services, facilitate
economic growth, and preserve quality of life for current and future
citizens; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives adopt as
its vision: Washington state will be the best place in the world to
live, earn a living, raise a family, and retire; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives adopt the
following goals:
(1) Increase public participation, understanding, and transparency
of the legislative process;
(2) Enact high quality legislation through debate and collaboration
that is thoughtful and responsive, and honors our diverse citizenry;
(3) Continuously evaluate and improve the efficiency and
effectiveness of all legislative operations;
(4) Recruit and retain highly motivated, competent, and creative
staff;
(5) Invest in member and staff professional development; and
(6) Maintain and enforce the highest ethical standards in an
impartial and consistent manner; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be
immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of
Representatives to all members and staff of the House of
Representatives.
