AN ACT Relating to studying juvenile offender case filings; creating new sections; and providing an expiration date.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1 The legislature finds that juvenile offender
case filings in King county may have dropped by forty-one percent while
the rest of the counties have had reductions that were much lower. To
better inform the legislature in developing public policy to assist in
the reduction of all juvenile offender cases throughout the state,
additional information is needed.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2 (1) The joint legislative audit and review
committee shall study the juvenile offender case filings reduction in
King county as compared to the other counties in the state. The joint
legislative audit and review committee shall provide a detailed
explanation of the factors for the differences from county to county
and any additional information that would assist the legislature,
including, but not limited to, recommendations for best practices that
could be implemented to achieve comparable results.
(2) The joint legislative audit and review committee shall report
its findings under subsection (1) of this section to appropriate
committees of the legislature by December 1, 2005.
(3) This section expires January 1, 2006.
