Strike everything after the enacting clause and insert the following:
"NEW SECTION. Sec. 1 The attorney general must review the
existing laws and current practices regarding the use of consumer
reports by employers. The review must include an assessment of
consumer privacy needs of applicants and employees and an assessment of
the legitimate needs of businesses as they evaluate and screen
applicants and existing employees. The attorney general must report
the findings to the senate consumer protection and housing committee
and the house of representatives insurance, financial services and
consumer protection committee by December 1, 2007."
Correct the title.
EFFECT: Strikes the existing bill and creates a study of employers' use of consumer reports by the attorney general. The study is due by December 1, 2007.
