EFFECT: Requires districts provide classified staff the legislatively-intended percentage salary "equity" adjustments for the 2008-09 school year. No state fiscal impact.

Background: In the 2008-09 school year, beyond the I-732 COLA, approximately 220 school districts, that historically have received lower salary allocations for classified staff, are receiving additional funding to bring them closer to the higher funded school districts and cause greater equity in terms of state classified salary allocation amounts. For the 2008-09 school year, the "equity" percentage increases range from about .1% to 1.4% beyond the I-732 COLA. The underlying bill directs funds to classified staff salary adjustments, but does not require the legislatively-intended percentage increases be funded.
