Fiscal Note: Requested on March 1, 2007.
Effective Date: The bill contains an emergency clause and is effective immediately.
Staff Summary of Public Testimony:
(In support) There are approximately 10,000 school bus drivers in Washington who transport
about 450,000 students every school day. The parents of these children need to know that
their kids are being transported safely. Currently, drivers are moving to another school
district after being fired and driving there instead. This bill would allow that sort of activity
to be uncovered.
The immediate notification requirements and the fact that the abstracts are provided free of
charge to the school districts are both important aspects of the bill.
(Opposed) None.
Persons Testifying: Representative McCune, prime sponsor; and Mitch Denning, Alliance of Education Association.
