Background:
A concealed pistol license (CPL) is required in order for a person to carry a pistol concealed on
his or her person. The fee for an initial CPL is $36. The license is valid for five years. The fee
for renewing a CPL is $32, and an application for renewal may be made up to 90 days before or
after the expiration date. However, renewal after the expiration of a CPL carries a $10 late
penalty in addition to the renewal fee.
Summary of Bill:
The $10 penalty for late renewal of a CPL does not apply to a member of the armed forces who
is serving outside the state when his or her CPL expires and who applies for renewal within 90
days of returning to the state.
Appropriation: None.
Fiscal Note: Not requested.
Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
