Background:
In 1992, the University of Washington acquired the Wellington Hills property, located south and
east of the junction of State Routes 9 and 522 in Snohomish County. The University of
Washington originally planned to build a branch campus at this location, but that site conflicted
with County growth limits. The acquisition cost was $6.2 million, of which $5.5 million was
appropriated through the state's capital budget. The current use of the property is a public golf
course.
Summary of Bill:
The control and management of the Wellington Hills property is transferred to the Department of
General Administration (Department). The Department is directed to sell the site at fair market
value. Proceeds from the sale must be deposited in the University of Washington Building
Account. The Legislature intends to appropriate the proceeds for future expansion of the
University of Washington Bothell/Cascadia Community College colocated campus. The
Department may be reimbursed for their expenses out of the proceeds of the sale as approved by
the Office of Financial Management.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
