Brief Description: Providing an employee of the county legislative authority may be appointed to the county canvassing board.

Brief Summary of Bill
  • For home rule charter counties, an employee who reports directly to the chair of the legislative body may be designated to sit on the county canvassing board when the chair is unavailable.

Background:

County canvassing boards consist of the county auditor, who is the chair, the county prosecuting attorney, and the chair of the county legislative body. In the event a member is unavailable to carry out the duties of the board then he or she may designate an alternate: the county auditor may designate a deputy auditor; the county prosecutor may designate a deputy prosecuting attorney; and the chair of the county legislative body may designate another member of the legislative body.

Summary of Bill:

In home rule charter counties, the chair of the county legislative body may designate an    employee who reports directly to the chair to sit on the county canvassing board when the    chair is unavailable.

Appropriation: None.

Fiscal Note: Not requested.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
