Background: The Governor currently appoints all the chief executive officers of each of the
executive agencies except for the Director of Fish and Wildlife.
Current law directs the Fish and Wildlife Commission (Commission) to establish policies
regarding fish and wildlife species and to monitor the Department of Fish and Wildlife's
implementation of those policies. The Commission also has the authority to appoint the Director
of Fish and Wildlife (Director).
The Director must supervise the administration and operation of the Department of Fish and
Wildlife and perform duties as prescribed by law and delegated by the Commission.
Summary of Bill: The Governor is given the authority to appoint the Director of Fish and Wildlife.
