Title: An act relating to industrial insurance disability pensions.

Brief Description: Providing volunteer work for a public agency may not serve as a basis for suspending or terminating industrial insurance benefits.

Background: Under Washington's Industrial Insurance Act, workers with permanent disabilities are entitled to a permanent disability award or a monthly pension. If diminution of the disability occurs, L&I may adjust the rate of compensation. If a worker receiving a pension for total disability returns to gainful employment, L&I can suspend or terminate the rate of compensation without producing medical evidence that shows a diminution of disability of a worker.

Summary of Bill: A worker receiving a pension for total disability may perform volunteer work for a public agency up to 40 hours per week.
