Background: Washington is a significant trading partner with the Phillippines. There are more than 65,000 Filipino-Americans in Washington State.

Summary of Bill: The Legislature requests the support of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, President of the Republic of the Philippines, for the establishment of a consulate in Seattle.

Staff Summary of Public Testimony: After World War II many Filipinos chose to become citizens of Washington State. The Filipino community in Washington is an important part of the state's community and workforce.
