On page 1, beginning on line 16 of the amendment, strike all of subsection (3)
Renumber the remaining subsections consecutively.
On page 1, line 23 of the amendment, after "(5)" insert "When
employees of hospitals have entered into collective bargaining
agreements, or if employees are not covered by a collective bargaining
agreement, an alternative approach developed by the hospital's nurse
staffing committee under RCW 70.41.410, that specifically vary from or
supersede, in part or in total the requirements of subsections (1) and
(2) of this section regarding appropriate meal and rest breaks, those
sections do not apply.

EFFECT: (1) Removes the exception for an employee to take shorter
breaks equivalent to at least ten minutes in a four-hour work period.
(2) Adds language that makes employees of hospitals consistent with
the provisions of RCW 49.12.187 for employees of public employers that
allows collective bargaining agreements to vary from or supersede meal
and rest break rules.
