Background:

When an emergency or disaster causes damage to local roadways, federal assistance can be requested from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Some FEMA funds require a local match or may not be sufficient to cover the total cost of the replacement or restoration project.

Summary of Bill:

A Local Bridge Restoration and Replacement Account is created that may be used for restoring and replacing local bridge projects receiving federal emergency funds that are not sufficient to fund the project. Moneys in the account may be spent only after appropriation.

Fiscal Note: Not requested.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of the session in which the bill is passed.
