WHEREAS, It is the desire of the House of Representatives to
recognize excellence in environmental sustainability; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives has passed legislation to
promote the use of sustainable design in schools and other public
buildings; and
WHEREAS, The use of sustainable design in public buildings saves
public resources, promotes energy efficiency, protects the health of
the public and other building users; and
WHEREAS, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
certifications are only granted to green buildings that meet strict
standards; and
WHEREAS, The City of Mukilteo completed a new City Hall building in
2009 which incorporates solar and geothermal energy sources, innovative
water conservation techniques, a green roof, natural lighting and
ventilation, and many other sustainable design features; and
WHEREAS, The City of Mukilteo achieved LEED Gold certification for
the new City Hall building in December 2009; and
WHEREAS, The City of Mukilteo is the first to build a LEED Gold
certified public building in Snohomish County; and
WHEREAS, The City of Mukilteo, has been acknowledged as one of the
best places to live by several national magazines; and
WHEREAS, The City of Mukilteo is moving forward as a leader in
sustainability in Washington;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives
of the State of Washington recognize the City of Mukilteo for
completing the first LEED Gold certified public building in Snohomish
County and for a demonstrable commitment to environmental
sustainability; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be
immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of
Representatives to Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine and the Members of the
Mukilteo City Council.
