     TO THE HONORABLE PAULA HAMMOND, SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION, AND TO THE WASHINGTON STATE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION, AND TO THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION:
     We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:
     WHEREAS, Lewisville Park was built in 1930 and remains one of Clark county's oldest regional parks; and
     WHEREAS, Lewisville Park was listed on the national register of historic places in 1986; and
     WHEREAS, State route number 503 is a major north/south highway that bisects the city of Battle Ground and provides a connection between the city of Vancouver to the south and rural communities to the north; and
     WHEREAS, In 1855, a conflict between the Klickitat Indians and the inhabitants of Fort Vancouver was avoided, and the area later became known as "Strong's Battle Ground"; and
     WHEREAS, State route number 502 to the Battle Ground Highway provides a recognizable name to this rather lengthy connection between Interstate 5 and the city of Battle Ground; and
     WHEREAS, State route number 502 is a major east/west highway that provides a four-mile direct connection to the city of Battle Ground from Interstate 5;
     NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully pray that the Washington State Transportation Commission commence proceedings to name state route number 502 the "Battle Ground Highway" and state route number 503 from the junction with state route number 500 at Orchards, thence northerly to a junction with state route number 502 at Battle Ground, thence northerly to Amboy, the "Lewisville Highway."
     BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately transmitted to the Honorable Paula Hammond, Secretary of Transportation, the Washington State Transportation Commission, and the Washington State Department of Transportation.
