WHEREAS, There are more than 700,000 veterans residing in the state
of Washington; and
WHEREAS, 18 percent of the veterans who sought jobs within one to
three years of discharge are unemployed; and
WHEREAS, The state of Washington has made promises in relation to
employment for veterans' and their family's sacrifices that they have
made in defense to our country and our state; and
WHEREAS, The laws of the state of Washington have long granted
recognition of a veteran's sacrifices by providing preferred employment
opportunities for veterans regardless of physical impairment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That on this day, April 16, 2009,
the Washington State Senate reaffirms its dedication to the preferred
employment opportunities promised to veterans in 1895; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be
immediately transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to Disabled
American Veterans of Washington.
