TO THE HONORABLE LYNN PETERSON, SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION, AND TO
THE WASHINGTON STATE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION, AND TO THE WASHINGTON
STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION:
We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of
the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully
represent and petition as follows:
WHEREAS, Washington State University was founded in 1890 as
Washington's original and largest land-grant university; and
WHEREAS, Washington State University is internationally renowned
for its programs in chemical engineering, veterinary medicine,
agriculture, animal science, food science, plant science, architecture,
neuroscience, and communication; and
WHEREAS, Washington State University brings higher education
resources to all Washingtonians through its satellite campuses in
Spokane, the Tri-Cities, and Vancouver; and
WHEREAS, The Washington State University Creamery has won national
awards for its delicious cheeses, the most famous of which is Cougar
Gold; and
WHEREAS, State route number 26 serves as the primary transportation
corridor for moving students to and from Washington State University
and for transporting the many goods produced at the university to the
rest of the state; and
NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully pray that the
Washington State Transportation Commission commence proceedings to name
state route number 26, beginning at the junction with Interstate 90 in
the vicinity of Pasco, thence in an easterly direction to the city of
Colfax, as the Crimson and Gray Cougar Highway to honor the great
contributions that Washington State University has made to the state of
Washington and the spirit of the university's alumni.
BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately
transmitted to the Honorable Lynn Peterson, Secretary of
Transportation, the Washington State Transportation Commission, and the
Washington State Department of Transportation.
